I’m sitting here, with about 86,000 things to do and deadlines looming, and I’m enraptured by the introduction to Eddie Bravo’s Mastering the Rubber Guard. If you read it, you know how entertaining it is. If not, let me give you a quick excerpt.
“I’m jacked. How the hell am I going to make it through the rest of the day?”
“I never rolled better in my life. It took a little while to forget the fact that I was actually training stoned, but when that cleared up, my jiu-jitsu was off the hook.”
Both of those are Eddie’s quotes.
From there, he talks about several other hilarious anecdotes that had me glued from one page to the next. I sent him an e-mail last night, telling him how much I enjoyed reading it, and he wrote back, from Argentina, and thanked me.
Most of you know that Eddie is the owner of 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu here in Los Angeles. I haven’t trained with him yet, but I’ve watched him teach class. He’s amazing, passionate and innovative. Plus, he’s got big named mixed martial artists training with him.
I’ll let you decide about the marijuana issue. But, if you want a laugh, you gotta read the book. If you want a great instructor, see Mr. B.
