COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — NBC announced that judo will be shown live on www.NBCOlympics.com during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, judo officials said.

"The live streaming and on-demand video of both fighting areas for these Olympic Games should allow for the growth of judo in countries such as the USA where in the past our athletes and our members would never have had the chance to see anything but a 30-second highlight,” said USA Judo CEO Jose H. Rodriguez. “I hope that this, in turn, will motivate our athletes to perform beyond all of our expectations knowing that their friends, fans and family members will be watching them live and cheer for them from afar! USA Judo congratulates NBC for continuing to be the leaders in the Olympic sport broadcast business!"

Action will begin on August 9 with both mats being shown simultaneously each day during the preliminary competition, which begins at 12 a.m. EDT.

Final rounds will begin at 6 a.m. EDT and will include repechage finals, semifinals and gold and bronze medal matches, said USA Judo.
