LOS ANGELES — Less than three weeks after its third prime time telecast, ProElite, the MMA organization that featured Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, ceased operations, said officials.

Keith Kizer, the executive direction of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, indicated that he had received an e-mail from a ProElite official stating, it is with “great regret that I must also inform you that ProElite, Inc. will be closing our operation today (October 21).”

ProElite officials declined to comment.

Thomas “Wildman” Denny, who recently fought for the organization, confirmed that they indeed had ceased operations.

In early October, CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights was the night’s No. 1 program on both broadcast and cable in adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49 (tie), according to Nielsen.

Tito Ortiz, a former UFC champ, told Ultimate Grappling recently that he was “99.9 percent” sure that he’d sign with ProElite. An official who worked in public relations for ProElite, who asked not to be identified, said Ortiz may have been close to signing in the hopes or understanding that CBS or SHOWTIME was on the brink of purchasing the organization.
