In July, "Razor" Rob McCullough defeated Harris Sarmiento in the WFA. McCullough, 29, lives in Huntington Beach, California. Here's a glimpse into his world.
How did you get the nickname? One of the other guys at the gym gave me the nickname after watching me train.
Tell us about your gym, seminars and privates. I teach a daily group kickboxing class at HB Ultimate, but most of my day is spent giving private training to students at the gym. I teach everyone from beginners to people who want to fight. My privates consist of both kickboxing and fitness instruction. I also train a variety of law enforcement officers. We focus on MMA skills that can help them in their career.
Do you have brothers and sisters? I have six sisters, and their ages range from 36 to 50.
What do your parents think about you being an MMA fighter? When I first started, my mom used to tell me I needed to get a real job and go back to school. Now she says, "What channel is your next fight going to be on?" and "What hotel are you staying at?"
Describe your personality. My personality is positive, sarcastic, passionate, witty and resolute. Tell us something about Rob McCul-lough that we would not know by watching you fight.
I left home when I was 14, and I pretty much raised myself from then on. I stayed at friends' houses. I was very fortunate to have friends and meet new people who opened their homes to me.
What are your favorite hobbies? I enjoy being outdoors, surfing, snowboarding, fishing and watching "The Family Guy."
When you're not fighting, what do you do on a typical weekend? I go to the gym. I train all the time so I can stay in shape when I'm ready to start training for a fight. I go out with my boys and watch a lot of movies, as well. You'll also often see me at fights, cornering my friends.
You're one lucky dude. You were invited to the Playboy Mansion. Give us an overview of what it was like. The first time I went was part of a PR tour with the WFA. The women were beautiful, and it was surreal.
If you were not a fighter, what would you do? I would probably be in the military.
If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be and why? That would probably be James Figg. He originated bare-knuckle fighting in the 1700s. It might be fun to challenge myself against him in an MMA fight.
Favorite tunes? I listen to just about anything from bands like Korn to techno music. Occasionally, I'll listen to Li'l John and Snoop Dogg.
What kind of car do you drive and why? I drive a 2006 Lexus GS 300. My friend owns Newport Lexus, and he hooked me up. I enjoy driving it, and it's fast.
Are you a sports fan? Do you read the sports page and/or watch "Sports Center"? Some of my friends are avid sports fans, which potentially sucks me into going to games, watching it on TV and an occasional bet, but I'm more of a hands-on sports guy. I'd rather be playing it than watching it on TV.
What is the best thing about living in Huntington Beach, California? Besides the beautiful women, the beach, the weather, and the HB Ultimate Training Center, this is the only place I can see myself ever calling home.Show comments (0) - Add comments to this article: |
