HOUSTON, Texas - Where do they go from here?
You would think it would be tough for the UFC to top UFC 68. After all, that March evening featured the return of Randy Couture, who dethroned Tim Sylvia as the UFC heavyweight champion, wins by Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes, as well as big attendance and gate numbers.
However, every time the UFC puts on a show that you're convinced can't be topped, they seem to come back with something even bigger. And such was the case at UFC 69: The Shootout, held here April 7. Following is a glimpse of what transpired here at the Toyota Center.
. The fireworks started at the weigh-in (April 6) when Diego Sanchez got in Josh Koscheck's face and shoved him. . The fight between lightweights Leonard "Bad Boy" Garcia and Roger "El Matador" Huerta was action packed, reminiscent of Griffin-Bonnar I and the fight of the night. . Between fights, UFC prez Dana White announced the signing of Antonio Rodrigo "Minotauro" Nogueira. . Matt Serra dominated GSP and left Houston as the UFC's new welterweight champion.
