Soldiers Set to Square Off at Combatives Tournament
FORT KNOX, Kentucky - More than 100 soldiers from several Army installations will be at Natcher Fitness Center to test their hand-to-hand combat skills inside a cage at Fort Knox's 2nd annual Open Combatives Tournament Nov. 15 to 17.

Day one consists of weigh-ins and bracketing for the double-elimination tournament. Day two features preliminary and semi-final round matches. Day three concludes the tournament with the final rounds for each of the seven weight classes. Winners will receive trophies and 2nd and 3rd place finishers will receive medals.

Soldiers will use basic ground grappling techniques for the preliminary matches and progress to advanced rules in the later rounds, where soldiers can implement almost all techniques of Army combatives to defeat their opponent.

Army combatives is a mixture of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, wrestling, boxing and muay Thai, and every initial entry soldier today is taught its fundamentals. The purpose is to provide soldiers an easy and proven approach to carry out effective hand-to-hand combat in a variety of situations.

Admission is free, and the public is invited.
