UFC lightheavyweight Brandon Vera has fought some big names in the past. Fighters like Randy Couture, Keith Jardine, Krzysztof Soszynski, Tim Sylvia and Frank Mir, among others.
He has not, however, faced anyone like Jon Jones.
That was the message that Jones delivered today during a 50-minute conference call with reporters.
“Brandon has not experienced a lightheavyweight as fast as me or anyone with my reach or anyone who can throw high kicks with both legs or spinning elbows or judo or wrestling,” said Jones. “He has a lot of experience, but he has not fought anyone close to me. Not even remotely.”
Vera acknowledged that Jones is a worthy opponent.
“His biggest weakness is his inexperience,” said Vera. “[Otherwise], his game is tight. His striking is tight. His footwork is good. The inexperience is the only x factor in his game. Everything else he is like a seasoned vet.”
Vera, who is training in Big Bear, California in preparation for this fight, said he and his team are planning strategy now.
“We will look for holes and exploit them,” he said. “No one has ever been able to push Jones. He tries to stay comfortable and relaxed in the ring, so we’ll see what happens.”
Jones and Vera are scheduled to fight March 21 in Broomfield, Colorado.
