Saturday Night Is All Right for Fighting

It's too early to say what the ratings are, but ProElite's CBS Saturday Night Fights was certainly entertaining.

Right off the bat, they made a big improvement by moving into the fights much faster than they did in their initial telecast in May. Having Frank Shamrock explain terminology continues to be a good idea.

And the fights were fun to watch. The women were entertaining, although Cristiane Cyborg hopefully learned a valuable lesson that the fight is over when the ref says it is. I'm especially impressed by Nick Thompson's ability to train for a high level of MMA while studying for the bar exam. Thomas Denny came up a little short in his fight against Nick Diaz, but it was good to see "The Wildman" on a big stage like that. And the rematch between Scott Smith and Robbie Lawler didn't live up to the initial fight, but it was still a good bout.

All in all, score a TKO for ProElite. Their ratings may have turned out fairly good too, considering that the boxing PPV led into their show. Saturday night really may have been all right for fighting.
