AOL Sports reported that 2.62 million people watched EliteXC’s Saturday Night Fights on July 26. In May, more than 4 million watched their inaugural show. Did Kimbo Slice make the difference? Possibly. We’ll know in October because he’s slated to fight on that card.
While we wait for Elite’s next show in October, let’s look at what America is watching. The Los Angeles Times reported that “America’s Got Talent” was the No. 1 show. Viewers? 13.2 million. “Wipeout” was second at 9.9 million. “Anger Management” was No. 86 on the list with 3.15 million.
When October rolls around, let’s hope Kimbo recovers some of the fans because good ratings would obviously be good for EliteXC and MMA and seemingly open the door for more MMA organizations to get on network TV. In fact, UFC president Dana White says his organization is close to a network deal. How many viewers would tune in to watch a veteran and former champ such as Chuck Liddell?
You might love him or you might hate him and you might even question his talent, at least at this point, but let’s pull for Kimbo to score a ratings KO for our sport.
