When the subject line of an e-mail is, “Kicks Ass,” it gets your attention right away.
I assumed my friend was talking about some MMA fighter, but that was not the case at all. Actually, he had read a rumor on the Velo News Web site that Lance was coming out of retirement to race in the Tour of California and the Tour de France. And then Susan sent a link to a story indiciating the same. Now it’s official. Lance is back.
This is the greatest news … maybe ever. This is a man who fought back from the brink of death to win the Tour de France seven consecutive times. Don’t breeze over that. Seven times. Seven. This is a man who is an inspiration to cyclists, cancer victims and cancer survivors. It is so awesome that he’s back.
Cyclists may even have a greater appreciation for what this man has accomplished because they are on two wheels and climb through the canyons and know how arduous it is when you’re at mile seven of a nine-mile climb in the heat and know what it’s like when you’re at mile 60 of an 80-mile ride through the canyons with your legs burning like they are on fire and the rider in front is pushing the pace like there’s no tomorrow.
Yeah, man. Lance is back. That kicks ass.
