MMA has certainly come a long way.
On Nov. 12, 1993, UFC I was held in Colorado. A guy named Royce Gracie set the martial arts world on fire with his performances.
On July 11, 2009, UFC 100 will occur in Las Vegas. A new set of names has now got the martial arts world on fire. Names like Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, GSP, Thiago Alves, Jon Fitch, Paulo Thiago, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping.
When we interviewed UFC president Dana White for our August cover story, he downplayed UFC 100, saying that show is not any more important than UFC 76 or UFC 91 or UFC 98. And that makes sense. Both he and the organization treat each event, each day and each moment as the most important. And that’s a valuable lesson for us all.
So let’s congratulate Zuffa for its hard work and hope every organization hits the 100 mark.
