With Its New TV Deal In Place and Season 2 Just Around the Corner, the Bellator Fighting Championship Is Raring To go
Bjorn Rebney peers out of his fourth-floor office window, gazes at the sun-drenched Lake Michigan and reflects on just how far his Bellator Fighting Championship has come.
"Even though it may sound a little egocentric, I did envision this," says Rebney, whose organization recently signed a new deal to have its second and third seasons on FOX Sports Net, NBC and Telemundo. "I had been fortunate to have done similar things, although not to the same extent, in boxing. I negotiate fiercely."
And those negotiations enabled them to secure that two-year deal. Bellator’s tournament-based mixed martial arts promotion will be available nationwide for 24 weeks in 2010 to 112 million homes through NBC, 82 million homes through FOX Sports Net (FSN) and its regional sports network affiliates, as well as to 62 million homes through Telemundo.
"We had the right drivers in place, and we scored a deal," he says.
Scored indeed.
