On Fire: Team Quest Wins 7 of 8 at SportFight 17
PORTLAND, Oregon - Seven out of eight ain't bad.

For SportFight 17 at the Rose Garden Arena, Matt Lindland and Randy Couture brought eight fighters from their fight club, Team Quest. When the night was over, Team Quest won seven of their eight fights.

Ian Loveland suffered the only loss. Trevor Burnell scored a first-round KO over Loveland. These two fighters seemed eager to fight each other at the weigh-ins, and it continued in the ring. Both fighters pushed the action from the start, but it was Burnell who landed a left punch that caught Loveland and left him defenseless. Burnell scored the KO knockout at 1:01.

Despite the victory, Burnell seemed upset with Ian Loveland. Afterward, he stomped around the ring calling Loveland names. Burnell even became confrontational with world-class trainer Robert Follis, who walked over to congratulate Burnell's corner.

Following are the highlights of the other action.
  • Greg Thompson scored Team Quest's first win of the night with a decision over Elli Peterson.
  • John Krohn, with Team Quest, controlled Reno Buckstuber and secured a rear naked choke at 1:50 of the first round.
  • The judges gave Team Quest's Mike Dolce the decision over Josh Burnham.
  • At 1:40 of Round 1, J.D. Stanley scored a submission-victory over Jon Clift.
  • In the heavyweight class, Team Quest's Thierry Sokoudjou knocked out Paul Wernecki with a high kick.
  • Ed "Bam Bam" Nuno unleashed a continuous barrage of punches on Tony Sanza, and the ref called the fight in the opening round.
  • The main event featured Chris "The Professor" Wilson against UFC fighter Laverne Clark for the SportFight Welterweight Championship title. Clark's record of 22-14-1 shows he's no beginner in the sport of MMA. However, "The Professor" demonstrated that there is always more to learn in this sport.
Well into Round 1, Wilson went for a triangle choke. Clark escaped but fell prey to an armbar. Wilson then released that and secured an inescapable triangle choke that forced Clark to tap out at 3:51.
