Mentryville is a historic oil town in the Santa Clarita Valley. Rumors are it’s haunted, and it’s true.
There’s a maintenance yard near Mentryville that is locked with a huge metal chain. I rode past there on my bike one day when the chain started to shake violently. I didn’t see the entity (ghost), but I certainly heard the chain slam against the fence for a good 10 seconds.
Even if there was wind, which there wasn’t, this chain was too big to move by itself. It was really pretty fascinating to hear this, and that’s one of the reasons I was so anxious to go the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel yesterday for Affliction’s press conference.
Jaimee Itagaki, our photographer, told me that the hotel is haunted. The moment we walked in we were looking for signs of the paranormal. We made our way over to the lobby, keeping on eyes on the second floor the whole time. According to Jaimee, that’s where all the activity is.
Everyone filed into the press conference room a little after 11, and, among others, Tito, Andrei, Matt Lindland, Babalu and Chris Horodecki were present. We took our seats … and that’s when it happened.
An empty plate floated across the room and landed directly at my feet, shattering into a million pieces. I looked up just as … just kidding.
Actually, the press conference was good, but there were no signs of the paranormal, at least on this particular day, so I was a little disappointed. Hopefully, I can get back there and check it out again some day.
That whole phenomenon is extremely intriguing to me, and I’ve heard some amazing stories about it from two prominent members of the martial arts community.
Until later.
