UFC 109: Observations and Chocolate

We were headed to the media room following the weigh-ins for UFC 109 this past weekend in Las Vegas, and Renzo Gracie was on the elevator in front of us. He was trying to get two friends to eat some sugar-free chocolate, and he was having a hard time coaxing them. We were watching the whole thing unfold, so he offered some to us. We took it without hesitating, and it was quite good.

 

Randy, Naturally, Is the Favorite

Weigh-ins, like fighters, come in all “shapes” and sizes. Some have been packed, while some have had a mediocre turnout. Some have generated a ton of noise, while others have been relatively quiet. Today’s, at Mandalay Bay Events Center for UFC 109, showcased a good turnout, but the noise level was down a little … until Randy Couture showed up.

 

Strikeforce Scores a Huge Deal

Mixed martial arts continues its growth, as Strikeforce announced 70 hours of its programming is headed to Europe, Australia and Latin America.

 

Now I Know How Brock Feels

When Brock Lesnar was in the midst of his medical problems recently, he said he got so disgusted with his inability to train that he left the U.S. and went to Canada to hunt. I’m not a hunter and never will be, but I can relate to his frustration.
