The accident occurred on Jamboree Road. A police officer traveling northbound on Jamboree saw two cars traveling southbound spin out of control.

The car Lewis was driving, a red Ferrari, went over the curb, struck a light pole and broke in half. He died from blunt force trauma, authorities said.

Lewis’ death shocked and saddened the MMA world because we lost a man so inspirational, so motivated and so ambitious. How could such a good person die at such a young age? As we all know, life is not always fair, and this is the greatest example of that.

In his 45 years, Lewis accomplished more than most do in a lifetime. His influence was felt far and wide.

“It’s about touching lives and how he touched lives, and he touched a lot of lives,” said Marc Kreiner, chairman and president of Tapout, talking about Lewis.

And that he did.

His slogan, “Simply Believe,” still inspires people today. His friends still talk about him today. Memories of him still provide many smiles today.

Still, for some, his departure brings tears. Even a year later. His tragic death, without a doubt, left a huge void, as Kreiner so eloquently noted.

“There are certain people in this world who come in and put their footprint down and leave two minutes too soon,” said Kreiner. “Like Charles.”
